Introduction
Dr. Carlos Yánez Benítez, MD, MSc, FACS, is a consultant in General Surgery at Mediclinic Parkview Hospital. He specialises in emergency surgical interventions, elective general and lower GI procedures and trauma surgery. In addition to his clinical expertise, he is actively involved in groundbreaking research focused on haemorrhage control, extremity tourniquet use, trauma care and mass casualty incident (MCI) management across Europe, particularly through the NIGHTINGALE project.
A passionate advocate for education and hands-on training, Dr. Carlos has spearheaded the development of multiple bleeding control courses to enhance emergency care. He currently serves as the Chair of the Emergency Surgery Section of the European Society of Trauma and Emergency Surgery (ESTES) and is an ambassador for the American College of Surgeons' Stop the Bleed initiative. He also plays a key role as an instructor in several international trauma courses, including DSTC, ETC, and ATLS, and is the founder of the Advanced Bleeding Control Course (ABC-C), further highlighting his commitment to advancing trauma care education worldwide.
