Dr. Sanah Merchant Soomar

Introduction

Dr. Sanah Merchant Soomar is a Consultant Paediatric Cardiologist at Medcare Women & Children Hospital. She completed her MBBS from Dr. D. Y. Patil Vidyapeeth, Mumbai, India and her Paediatric Residency training in New York, USA. She also obtained her Paediatric Cardiology Fellowship from the Schneider Children's Hospital, New York, USA. She is American Board Certified in both Paediatrics and sub-Board of Paediatric Cardiology.
Dr. Soomar has almost two decades of clinical experience in the field of Paediatric Cardiology, having worked across the United States, Singapore and India. She commenced her career as a Fellow in Paediatric Cardiology at the Schneider Children's Hospital, New York, USA and later worked there as a Consultant. She then joined the Fortis-Wockhardt Hospital, India as a Consultant Paediatric Cardiologist before moving to the National University Hospital of Singapore where she managed the Foetal Cardiac Programme. She has substantial expertise in diagnosing and counselling for complex cardiac defects antenatally. She was a Consultant Paediatric Cardiologist at the prestigious Sir H.N. Reliance Foundation Hospital & Research Centre in Mumbai before joining Medcare.
Dr. Soomar has considerable experience performing transthoracic, foetal, and transoesophageal echocardiograms. She is also experienced in performing diagnostic and interventional cardiac catheterisation, including balloon valvuloplasty, coarctation angioplasties, ASD, and PDA devices. She is trained in managing critical post-operative patients including bedside cardiac pacing, pericardiocentesis, cardioversion etc. She has successfully treated congenital and acquired paediatric heart disease.
During her free time, she likes to keep fit by playing tennis and enjoys reading and travelling, too. She speaks English and Hindi.
